Here at Sport and Spinal Physiotherapy our team of experienced physiotherapists aim to provide the highest quality of treatment to patients of all ability levels in order to enhance and improve the rehabilitation process. In order to achieve this we provide our patients with physiotherapy which is patient centered and specific to their level of ability. As a result when deciding on physiotherapy interventions, the patient will be encouraged to discuss their short and long term goals for rehabilitation with their physiotherapist. These goals become the central focus of a patient's programme of physiotherapy treatment. Since every patient has different symptoms and goals, the treatment approach chosen by our physiotherapist varies from person to person. Therefore at Sport and Spinal Physiotherapy our physiotherapists use an extensive range of physiotherapy interventions in order to provide our patients with the best possible treatment in order to maximise their potential.

Liz Atha (Director)
Chartered Physiotherapist Liz Atha runs the specialist dance, sport and spinal clinic based within the new home of Northern Ballet in Leeds City Centre. Liz Atha is a specialist spinal physiotherapist with MMACP Specialist spinal qualifications. She has been involved with treatment of spinal problems for the past 12 years and receives many referrals and recommendations from local neurosurgeons and spinal surgeons.
Liz graduated from Guys Hospital School of Physiotherapy in 1990, initially working at Pinderfields then the Leeds Teaching hospitals. She joined the York District Hospital as an extended scope practitioner for musculoskeletal services in 2002 before moving into the private practice.
Alongside her private work, Liz has been involved in work with elite footballers and teaching. She undertook a masters in manual therapy and MMACP in 2002. Which led her to become more specialised in the spinal field.
For the last 7 years she has been an extended scope practitioner in the Leeds Teaching Hospitals within the spinal services alongside her private clinic work and the Northern Ballet. In the past few years she has developed an increase knowledge in the management of Scoliosis and is now developing this service within the clinic.
Marcus Hedley
Marcus joined the team at Sport and Spinal in 2014 where he has built strong links with Yorkshire's leading spinal surgeons developing functional rehabilitation programs for both acute and chronic spinal pathologies.
Marcus graduated from the University of Huddersfield in 2009, working initially in the Mid Yorks NHS before moving to the private sector across West Yorkshire, Greater Manchester and then London at a prestigious physiotherapy and pilates company, building his knowledge and specialism as a musculoskeletal physiotherapist.
An ex England school boy footballer and a single handicap golfer, Marcus is passionate about sports injury management and having worked as a physiotherapist in professional football and with the Northern Ballet for the last 2 years he appreciates the needs of the high level sports person. Marcus also applies normal movement principles and functional rehabilitation concepts to manage his clients with back and neck pain, work-related disorders and rheumatological conditions in order to return them to their optimum function.
Prior to qualifying as a Chartered Physiotherapist, Marcus completed a BSc Honours Degree in Sports Science at Loughborough University, enabling him to apply this knowledge to his physiotherapy practice. Marcus specialises in the diagnosis and rehabilitation of sports injuries using postural and biomechanical analysis, manual therapy, pilates and individualised rehabilitation programmes to help his clients return to the sports and activities they love.
